Raul Lorenzo Rubio

Raul Rubio

Raul Lorenzo Rubio was born September 5, 1960 in Laredo, Texas.

Raul began his journey in southern Texas. Because he couldn’t travel overseas as a young man, he explored Mexico. Mexico was his Europe for a time, those wonderful travels fostering his interest in still-broader exploration. Upon graduating from college he worked for the cities of San Juan and Alamo, Texas as city manager. His appreciation for politics led him to Washington D.C. where he specialized in government affairs as a consultant and lobbyist for the Democratic Party. He devoted himself to civic life. For years, Raul worked with Native American tribes in the area of welfare reform, government affairs, and infrastructure development throughout the United States. He not only strived to help people, but was wholeheartedly taken with the causes he supported.

He attended the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas and the Graduate Faculty at New School University in New York City. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Latino Leaders Network and the Hispanic Institute Most importantly, Raul considered himself fortunate to lead a life of the mind.

Raul died Monday June 29, 2009. He is survived by the Rubio family.
