Actress Eva Longoria, star of the ABC hit television series Desperate Housewives was the featured speaker at the Latino Leaders Luncheon Series™ on November 15, 2006. Longoria was named one of Daily Variety’s “Ten New Faces to Watch”, Rolling Stone’s “People of the Year” and USA Today’s “TV Hot 11.” The youngest of four sisters who grew up on a ranch in Corpus Christi, Texas, Longoria attended Texas A&M-Kingsville, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. After graduating from college, she entered a talent contest that brought her to Los Angeles, where she was spotted and subsequently signed by a theatrical agent.

Eva Longoria was introduced by Janet Murguia, President of the National Council of La Raza. Other speakers at the luncheon included Alex Nogales, President of the National Hispanic Media Coalition and Mickey Ibarra, Founder and Chairman of the Latino Leaders Network.

September, 2006 featured a Latino Leaders Luncheon Series™ held in conjunction with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s 20th anniversary and featured Father Virgilio Elizondo, a past recipient of the Hispanic Heritage Award and recognized by Time Magazine as one of the nation’s leading spiritual innovators. Other speakers at the luncheon included Jose Antonio Tijerino, President & CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Rosa Rosales, the National President of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and Mickey Ibarra.

Leticia Van De Putte, Senator

Texas State Senator Leticia Van de Putte, the first Latina President of the National Conference of State Legislatures gave a stirring keynote address. The Senator shared her story focusing on her journey as a mother, pharmacists and public servant. Other speakers at the luncheon included Senator Kenneth McClintock, President of the Senate of Puerto Rico, Alma Riojas, President & CEO of MANA, A National Latina Organization and Mickey Ibarra.

Robert Menendez, Senator

Newly appointed Senator Bob Menendez returned to keynote the Luncheon in his capacity as the newest member of the United States Senate. Senator Menendez shed light on the immigration debate, immigrant family history and his career as a public servant. Other speakers included Ann Marie Tallman, President of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Mickey Ibarra.
