LATINO LEADERS NETWORK ANNOUNCES 2nd EDITION OF: “LATINOS ON THE HILL” DIRECTORY AND FIRST EVER LATINO HONOR ROLL

Directory Now Available Online

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The Latino Leaders Network™ (LLN) today announced the distribution of the 2nd Edition of “Latinos on the Hill,” a print and web congressional directory that includes Latino members and staff serving in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. The first-edition was released in October 2007 and the online directory was launched in March of 2008. The directories are published by Capital Advantage for the Latino Leaders Network. Sponsors of the project include: Mexicans and Americans Thinking Together Foundation (MATT.org) and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

The 2nd edition includes the first ever “Honor Roll,” listing Members of Congress who employ at least one Latino staff member on Capitol Hill. A total of 117 Members, including leadership offices made the Honor Roll in 2008, representing more than 20% of all Congressional offices. An additional eight committee offices employed at least one Latino staffer as well.

“We are offering this directory to all Members of Congress, the Latino leadership community and to the general public via our website,” noted Mickey Ibarra, Founder & Chairman of the Latino Leaders Network. “Our purpose is to highlight the contribution of Latinos who serve the United States Congress and the American people and to honor those who promote and practice diversity in their hiring,” he added.

The directory identifies 266 Latinos who currently serve in the Congress as Members and staff. That number increases to 284 when Latino District and State Directors are included. Of those, 30 serve as Members of Congress in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, 24 as Latino Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs of Staff, 14 as Legislative Directors, and 30 as Committee and Leadership staff. The directory also includes Committee Staff Directors, Press Secretaries, Schedulers, Legislative Assistants, Legislative Correspondents and District Directors.

The Latino Leaders Network made every effort to identify all Latino staff serving the Congress and American people for this directory. To collect the data, the Latino Leaders Network and Capitol Advantage visited all Congressional offices and the U.S. House and Senate Committee and Leadership offices; emailed every Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Committee Director serving the U.S.

House and Senate; and conducted a phone survey with every Congressional office in the U.S. House and Senate. The information was collected with the full participation of these offices and was provided voluntarily. Despite our many attempts, we recognize that some staff may have been omitted.
